The Greater Warren County Drug Task Force

High INtensity drug Trafficking area (HIDTA)

The Greater Warren County Drug Task Force is the location for the Southwest Ohio High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA). HIDTA represents a joint cooperation between local, state, and federal law enforcement to combat high-level drug trafficking organizations in the United States. The HIDTA’s across the country are funded through the Executive Office of the President of the United States, Office of National Drug Control Policy.

The drug task force/HIDTA office now consists of fourteen personnel that in addition to local law enforcement, includes full-time members from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and an intelligence analyst from the Ohio National Guard’s Counter Drug unit. Part time federal support is also supplied through the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and the United States Marshall’s Office in Cincinnati.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio (Cincinnati and Dayton) is an important part of the local-federal partnership, along with the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.

		HIDTA

HIDTA provides funding used by the drug task force to better coordinate high-level drug and money laundering criminal investigations in our region. This money can be used for overtime, equipment, travel, and other important resources during these oftentimes long and complicated investigations.

Ultimately, HIDTA allows the Warren County Drug Task Force to operate more efficiently with the increased resources that are inherent to the program. This allows us to target larger criminal conspiracies that ultimately stretch to our southern most borders of the United States, and into Mexico. This kind of capability through HIDTA creates a positive result for the citizens of our region as we reduce the flow of illegal drugs into southwest Ohio.
