METHAMPHETAMINE
Methamphetamine Labs
Methamphetamine is made with common household products sold in stores throughout your community. Some products include, over the counter cold medicine such as Sudafed, and Mini Thins (Pseudoephedrine), starting fluid (Ether), Drain cleaner (Sulfuric Acid), Lithium, Metal (Batteries), and Anhydrous Ammonia (Farm Fertilizer) to name only a few.
Used as designed, these household products are generally safe. Mixed together, as they are to make methamphetamine, they can become explosive and/or give off toxic fumes that attack mucous membranes, skin, eyes, and the respiratory tract. They can even kill. Innocent people, including children, have died when methamphetamine labs blew up.
Indications of a possible clandestine Meth lab:
- Frequent visitors at all times of the day or night - persons carrying in boxes with excessive amounts of glassware, containers, tubing, etc.
- Frequent late night activity.
- Chemical odors coming from their houses, garbage or detached buildings.
- Paranoid behavior and/or extensive security.
- Unfriendly, appear secretive about their activities.
- Unemployed yet pay bills with cash.
- Coming outside to smoke cigarettes.
- Windows blackened out or curtains always drawn.
- Burn garbage on property or set their garbage in another neighbors collection area.
