Task Force Keeps Watchful Eye on Cocaine
Trafficking
Cocaine and its processed cousin, crack cocaine,
continue to be a major illegal drug threat in Warren
County and Wilmington. Although this drug like marijuana
may be transported through Mexico directly to our
region, cocaine is also brought to southwest Ohio
via motor vehicle from Detroit, Chicago, and New York
City.
Since
Warren County has two major interstate highways running
through its center, we become a major thoroughfare
for the transportation of cocaine. Easy access to
our area, coupled with an affluent population, can
contribute to the overall drug problem.
Since Warren County is sandwiched between two major
urban areas, Dayton and Cincinnati, there is a constant
attempted infiltration of cocaine traffickers into
northern and southern Warren County. The drug task
force, along with local law enforcement, keeps a watchful
eye on these areas and does our best to pursue these
illegal entrepreneurs before they get a strong foothold
in the area.
Cocaine sells for approximately $20-$25,000 per kilo
in our area, and then sold on the street for about
$100 per gram, creating a 400-500% profit margin.
These kinds of profits continue to make cocaine trafficking
a profitable venture.
